Santa Rita Prickly Pear is a striking purple cactus with light lemon flowers.“The purple prickly pear is noted for the waxy "bluish" gray stem color and the purple colorings along the edges of the stems.” Purple coloring comes and goes with the seasons and is a brighter purple when the plant is stressed by heat and drought. 🌵 1 cactus pads (not whole plant shown) - USE DROP DOWN MENU TO ORDER MORE PADS or see my store to order a set of pads.🌵 Planting instructions.🌵 Potted pictured is example submitted by a buyer. No pot included.🌵 Cactus pads vary in color depending on season. They can range from a bluish green to bright purple depending on how hot it is here and when our last ran was.
🌵 I find that the more mature/older cactus pads root the easiest. Since older cactus pads have been alive the longest it is possible for cactus pads to have slight damage from bird pecks or a tree branch rubbing on them ect. These are still healthy pads and will grow new pads that are unblemished. Cactus pads are living organisms and as such they will vary from each other in size, color...

Additional cuttings for sale can be found by going to my online store I DO CUSTOM ORDERS! Just convo me. Very easy to care for. Just plant in dry soil (outside or in a container) in full or partial sun, and water only after the roots have come out in a few weeks. Some water once in a while is about all they require. Almost the only way to kill cactus is to never ever water it, water it all the time or freeze it completely. If you live in a cold area of the country I would suggest planting 1 pad per pot and keeping them on the porch or inside by a window until the weather warms up again. Plant in any type of soil as long as you let the soil dry out completely before you water it again. These species all grow at my house outside and we get a light dusting of snow. They just won't tolerate the cold until they are a bit bigger. If you have turtles, tortoises, iguanas, bearded dragons... they will love to eat cactus pads. Especially when the pads are just starting to grow and the new pads are soft and green. You can make yourself jellies and prickly pear lemonade from the cactus fruit!USE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING AND WEAR LEATHER GLOVES OR USE KITCHEN TONGS TO AVOID GLOCHIDS (HAIRLIKE SPINES).
