🌵 I find that the more mature/older cactus canes root the easiest.  Since older cactus canes have been alive the longest it is possible for cactus pads to have slight damage from bird pecks or a tree branch rubbing on them etc.  These are still healthy pads and will grow new cains that are unblemished. Cactus cains are living organisms and as such they will vary from each other in size, color...

* SEVEN species of prickly pear and may species of cholla grown here on my land in Arizona! I cut them to order and send them to you pronto. The temperature here varies from over 100 degrees to 25 degrees and sometimes lower. All of these prickly pear and cholla live "wild" outside and do well in these conditions with only rainwater.

Very easy to care for. Just plant in dry soil (outside or in a container) in full or partial sun and water only after the roots have come out in a few weeks. Some water once in a while is about all they require. Almost the only way to kill cactus is to never ever water it, water it all the time or freeze it completely.

If you live in a cold area of the country I would suggest planting 1 pad per pot and keeping them on the porch or inside by a window until the weather warms up again. Plant in any type of soil as long as you let the soil dry out completely before you water it again.

These species all grow at my house outside and we get a light dusting of snow. They just won't tolerate the cold until they are a bit bigger.


USE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING AND WEAR LEATHER GLOVES OR USE KITCHEN TONGS TO AVOID GLOCHIDS (HAIRLIKE SPINES).

* Some succulents are frost tender and cannot be guaranteed if you or your shipping route is less than 40 degrees. HEAT PACKS ($3) are strongly suggested and can be purchased through my store to ship with your gift. The packs last 72 hours and raise the temperature in the box 10-15 degrees.
